Sexual disorders in male and female impact on fertility

The sexual disorder is any difficulty experiencing or maintaining sexual desire, arousal, or pleasure during sexual activity.

These issues can hamper your ability to have a child through sexual action.

Different Sexual Disorders

  • Disorders of desire, such as hypoactive sexual drive (HSDD)

Sexual desire and effectiveness can be negatively impacted by stress and relationship problems for both men and women.

Hormonal shifts can partly cause both sexes’ low desire.

Several factors, including ageing, depression, anxiety, pregnancy, and some medicines, can cause reduced libido.

For at least six months, women who suffer from Hypoactive Sexual urge Disorder (HSDD) suffer from a severe lack of urge to engage in sexual activity.

Up to a third of Indian adult women, and even some males to a lesser extent, suffer from it.

The inability to maintain interest during sex, a diminished reaction to stimulation, and a diminished desire to initiate sex are all symptoms of HSDD, so in this you should approach a sexologist.

  • Arousal problems like erectile failure

Arousal disorders involve a persistent incapacity to attain desired levels of sexual stimulation.

The most common arousal condition in men is (ED), which occurs when a man’s penis has trouble rising or remaining erect during sexual activity.

The prevalence of ED in men increases from 5% to 15% between the ages of 40 and 70, and 52% of men experience erectile dysfunction  in some form.

A woman can still want sexual relations but struggle to achieve and keep the arousal necessary for satisfying sexual encounters and conceive successfully.

Women may notice a lack of vaginal lubrication, reduced clitoris enlargement, and dryness in the genital area.

Arousal disorders can cause both men and women to withdraw from sexual intimacy.

  • Sexual dysfunctions like anorgasmia

When a man or woman experiences a delay in the onset of climax following sexual stimulation, this condition is known as anorgasmia and indicates an underlying orgasmic disorder.

Even under constant stimulus and arousal, these symptoms may persist. Both men and women can experience anorgasmia, characterised by a lack of pleasure during sexual activity.

Only about 8 percent of men are believed to experience anorgasmia.

Some males ejaculate sperm during orgasm, but this is not always true.

Anorexia can cause a woman to lose interest in sexual activity, and its unclear what part orgasm plays in women.

  • Dyspareunia and other painful illnesses

Female genital discomfort (dyspareunia) can occur anywhere along the female reproductive tract and typically worsens before, during, or after sex.

Some women with dyspareunia may experience decreased fertility because they postpone sexual activity around the time of ovulation.

Male partners sensitive to pain may experience diminished sexual desire and performance.

Lesser pain disorders, such as vaginal muscle tightening or insufficient lubrication, are more prevalent in women, especially in response to sexual arousal or stimulation.

Sex pain in men can lead to fertility issues comparable to those experienced by women.

Penis deformities, foreskin issues, STIs, skin disorders, and other conditions can cause men discomfort during intercourse.

Conclusion

Infertile partners are more likely to experience sexual dysfunction than the general population.

Couples enduring infertility treatment should be aware that sexual dysfunction of some kind is common. Couples can maintain their closeness in this trying time by being willing to accept support when it is offered.
